Memes offer more than just amusement. It's time to face reality!
It's important to acknowledge the dark cloud lurking below
meme culture's bright surface. Memes aren’t always funny; occasionally they
spread false information that leads to internet manipulation.
In this digital world, memes that seem to be joyful and entertaining
on the surface shape views and narratives. Put differently, visual content
contributes to the collective unconscious. Therefore, we have to acknowledge
that beneath the sea of memes meant for amusement and profit, there is a dark,
silent undercurrent (Pramanick et al., 2021).
Pictures have a lot of weight, but the relationship between
visual culture and society is delicate. Here, false information is extremely
powerful since it shapes people's perceptions. Consequently, the examination of
memes demonstrates that it is more than just a pastime because it allows us to
see the web's integration of many visual communication channels.
